The Teledermoscopic Network of Serbia (TDMS) started operating in 2009 as one of the first teledermoscopic networks in the world.
The main goal of TDMS is early detection of skin cancer (melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers).
The design of the network enables doctors in their surgeries, after a digital dermoscopic analysis, to forward suspicious changes to the TDC for expert analysis.
The response time from TDC is from a few minutes to 24 hours. It just depends on whether the TDC examinations are pre-planned or not.
This kind of work enables fast and efficient diagnostics where the patient does not travel through the depths of the health system for top diagnostics, but his digital findings.
The development of the entire technology, hardware and software lasted less than 6 years (2004-2009).
Under development. In addition to ORS plastic surgery and the company Teleskin d.o.o., a large number of experts of various profiles from various institutions participated: the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering in Belgrade, the Vinca Institute and the Institute of Physics in Belgrade. Great support for the entire project was given by: the Ministry of Science and Technological Development and the Ministry of Health of Serbia and the “Trampoline” Institute.
Results so far
From 2009 to 2018, over 10 health institutions joined TDMS. It is important to note that the network is used by both state and private health institutions.
Starting in 2018, TDMS gained another dimension. It becomes the basis for the development of skin cancer screening. Screening first starts at the Health Center and the General Hospital in Pancevo, and from November 2020, all 16 health centers in Belgrade.
And finally, over all these years, over 12,000 cases have been examined. Of that number, over 200 skin cancers were detected.
